Angie joined Wave as Director of Fraud & Risk in June 2016 after 5 years at TD Bank in Card Fraud Analytics. Bringing her experience from the issuing side to the merchant side at Wave, she is responsible for all things risk: chargebacks, fraud and merchant risk prevention. Angie holds a Master’s Degree in Statistics from the University of Guelph.

Afsoon has a PhD in Physics from Washington State University and currently leading machine learning developers and Data Scientist in CBC to develop data-driven systems for CBC contents. Afsoon co-founded an award winning software company, IRYStec, which was acquired by Faurencia. Afsoon is passionate about empowering women, specifically in science and technology. She volunteers her time for mentoring founders and individuals in their growth.

Stephanie is a Senior Advisor in Digital Health at the World Health Organisation’s Department of Digital Health & Innovation, and a senior consultant at Hardian Health. With over 15 years clinical and research experience, she trained and worked in the NHS. She is an NHS England Clinical Entrepreneur and Honorary Senior Research Fellow at UCL where she was awarded a Doctorate in Clinical Research. Her current research interests are in Health Equity, and optimising datasets used for AI and Data-driven health technologies. Stephanie is a regular speaker on technology and the future of health.

Catherine D'Ignazio

Assistant Professor of Urban Science & Planning Director, Data + Feminism Lab

D’Ignazio is an Assistant Professor of Urban Science and Planning in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT. She is also Director of the Data + Feminism Lab which uses data and computational methods to work towards gender and racial equity, particularly in relation to space and place. She has run reproductive justice hackathons, designed global news recommendation systems, created talking and tweeting water quality sculptures, and led walking data visualizations to envision the future of sea level rise. Her research at the intersection of technology, design & social justice has been published in the Journal of Peer Production, the Journal of Community Informatics, and the proceedings of Human Factors in Computing Systems (ACM SIGCHI).

Susan is a Principal Data Scientist at Clearbanc, a fintech company providing growth capital for online businesses. She is a committee member of Aggregate Intellect, a machine learning platform with 13k+ YouTube subscribers. She is also the founder and sole developer of Quill Game Studios. You can find Susan speaking at conferences such as PyCons, TMLS, and events like this one!

Aditi Trivedi

Data Analyst

Aditi is a data analyst at 500px, where she works closely with senior leadership to meet all analytics needs of the organization. Prior to this she worked in data science and analytics in the advertising industry, before making the switch to tech. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from McMaster University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Brock University. Aditi is passionate about data and building agile workflows for data science projects, similar to software development. In her spare time she likes to learn new frameworks, and is currently building models using PyTorch and Sagemaker.

Ashley Casovan

Executive Director

Ashley has been at the forefront of building tools and policy interventions to support the responsible use and adoption of innovative technologies, both with her work at the Government of Canada, and as the Executive Director of AI Global, a multi-stakeholder non-profit dedicated to mitigating harm and unintended consequences of AI systems. As a recognized leader in the social tech community she has developed a strong reputation for developing workable governance for data, artificial intelligence, and open source tools. Her work helps to inform government, industry, and academic research.
